that is because the definition of anime is japanese animation. that's why they don't have another word for cartoon. i've taken two years of japanese myself, and all from teachers who are japanese (even though i really don't think that has anything to do with it).

seriously though, i only wrote that up there because most of the people on this site are uncultured amaricans who put Futurama in the same category as Grave of the Fireflies. also, if you would pay attention to the rest of my answers, then you could tell that i really didn't take that thing seriously, so could we drop this?

Lolz, you are protective of your cartoons. But actually, anime is the common Japanese word used for cartoon, unless my Japanese teacher is mistaken. Which I doubt. Because he's Japanese. And if anyone knew it would probably be him. I'm sure you could say amerika no anime or nihon no anime to be exact though... I'll ask him next semester or something if I remember.

not really. anime (アニメ is short for animation (アニメション. and there are animated works in america that are not considered cartoons. i, for the life of me, cannot remember the name of my example right now, but i'll let you know when i remember if you're still interested.

Ah, but anime is simply the Japanese word for cartoon. In America it may have a "different" meaning, but overall, it means cartoon. I wasn't trying to go all geeky on yah. I was merely stating a fact XD

first of all, thanks for visiting.

second of all, no anime is not cartoons. cartoons carries with it the american stereotypes of only being for young children or extremely perverted as well as lacking any artistic flair. anime, while it does have series designed only for kids or that is perverted, has many series that are very deep and thoughtful and aesthetically pleasing. anime and cartoons are both animation, but they are not the same thing.
