THIS IS NOT MY CHARACTER!!! HE BELONGS TO AND ALL OF HIS SMEXY AWESOMENESS BELONGS TO HER!
So this is my half of an art trade that we had agreed upon oh what...1.5 years ago? It took so long because I really loved Kayn's design and so wanted to do him justice. The original lines are sorta 1 year old...so I may do better now but whatever, I'll leave it as is. I'm really proud of the end result.
Ya wana know what took so long? Details. So many effing details! I drew every chain link, every topstich, every stupid zipper tooth. And I bet that most of that isn't even visible. Haha.
The set-up of it was inspired by something that I saw one day when I was walking down Library walk at UCSD (yeah, back when I was still attending UCSD). I saw this guy sitting on top of the speakers for their frat booth thing and thought it was pretty cool looking. Later that day I saw somebody else trying to be cool with the clothes 3 sizes too big and large blingy things that probably didn't cost as much as they looked thing going on. I might have rolled my eyes and walked on except for the fact that his headphones looked pretty awesome, so I included those too. That's pretty much it on the inspirations front.
Letsee...to wrap things up...I used some stock for the speakers from here: [link]
XD Thanks. The results are probably the reason why I submit so such masochistic tedancies. Although I must say...individual zipper teeth...NEVER AGAIN!
Also, thanks for the fav! You're one of those people who only fav something if you really like it so it means a lot.
This is really excellent! That left hand seems a little small, but I looooove how you've rendered the lighting and of course those little details you work on really shine. I especially love the fur on the inside of his hood. The toes of his shoes look boxy to me, but that was probably intentional, and the way you colored the material is fantastic. Overall the mood is really, really great and I think this is one of the best things I seen you do!
Thanks for liking it! It's probably one of the best since it's one of the most recent...getting better all the time has it's perks. XD
Actually, the hands and arms gave me a lot of trouble. I drew it out originally before I got to Cogswell...so when I went back and looked at it after some hardcore art classes I noticed how off the arms were. I had to tweak them a lot...and in the end...they're still off but not as bad as before. The hand near his face is actually correct, I looked at mine in a mirror for size comparison. I think my problem is that I made the rest of the arm to wide in comparison...and the other hand is too big. *shrug* Live and learn.
I've been doing fur like that for years. XD My first digital painting even had that kind of fur in it. It's actually really fun to do. =3
The boxed toes...was sort of intentional? It's a habit I got into in the early stages of drawing. I was representing the foot as a box (instead of a triangle as I should have been) and so when it came time for shoes...I just kept the box shape and called it a boot. =/ It's kinda stuck with me since then...drawing boots with boxed toes. I really need to kick this habit though.
I'm still all impressed by your lighting here. I have a lot of trouble using dichromatic light in ANY way, but you make it look really super great here.
Boxy toes are better for kicking ass, everyone knows this.

Anyways, thanks for the excellent comment!
